The active high incoming payload active (IPL)
signal identifies the bytes within the transport
envelope frame on the incoming stream that
carry the VC3 or VC4 virtual containers, or the
STS-1 synchronous payload envelopes.
In incoming byte interface mode (IBMODE set
high), IPL must be brought high to mark each
payload byte on ID[7:0]. IPL is sampled on the
rising edge of SCLK.
In incoming nibble interface mode (IBMODE set
low), IPL must be brought high to mark the more
significant nibble of each payload byte on
ID[3:0]. IPL is ignored during the less significant
nibble timeslots. IPL is sampled on the rising
edge of NSCLK.
