HAL 85x
HAL 85x
Programmable Hall-Effect Sensors with Arbitrary Output
The HAL 85x complement the existing Hall-
effect sensor family HAL 8xx. Both univer-
sal magnetic field sensors provide an arbi-
trary output signal. The sensors are pro-
duced in submicron CMOS technology.
◆ Operates from 4.5 V up to 18 V supply
Features
voltage
◆ High-precision linear Hall effect sensors
◆ Operates with static magnetic fields and
with different output formats
dynamic magnetic fields up to 2 kHz
◆ Various programmable magnetic charac-
◆ Choppered offset compensation
◆ Overvoltage protection on all pins
teristics with non-volatile memory
In combination with a rotating or moving
magnet, the sensors can be employed for
angle, distance, and level measurements.
The sensors provide either a pulse width
modulated (PWM) output signal or a serial
Biphase-M output.
◆ Programmable output characteristic
◆ Reverse-voltage protection on V pins
DD
(32 setpoints with 9 bit resolution)
◆ Magnetic characteristics extremely
◆ Programmable output formats
robust against mechanical stress
(PWM or serial Biphase-M)
◆ Short-circuit protected output
◆ EMC-optimized design
◆ Programmable PWM Period
◆ Open-drain output for HAL 855
Major characteristics like magnetic field
range, output characteristic, output format,
sensitivity, shift (duty cycle of the PWM out-
put signal or the serial output word), PWM
period, low and high current, and the tem-
perature coefficients can easily be adjusted
to the magnetic circuit (linear and quadratic)
by programming the non-volatile memory.
The output characteristic can be set with
32 setpoints with a resolution of 9 bit
◆ Programmable output current source for
Major Applications
HAL 856 (low and high current)
◆ Digital signal processing
Due to the sensor’s versatile programming
characteristics, the HAL 85x is the optimal
system solution for applications such as:
◆ Temperature characteristics program-
mable for matching all common mag-
netic materials
◆ Contactless potentiometers
◆ Rotary position measurement
◆ Level measurement
◆ Programming by modulation of the
supply voltage
The sensors were designed to translate a
linear magnetic field into an arbitrary output
signal or a non-linear magnetic field into a
linear output signal. The sensors are avail-
able in the very small leaded package
TO-92UT.
◆ Lock function and built-in redundancy for
EEPROM memory
◆ Linear position detection
◆ Magnetic field detection
◆ Operates from –40 °C up to 150 °C
ambient temperature
