More about the EMV-Ready turnkey
application:
Single Smart Card Reader: Teridian 73S1112F
Asynchronous Serial
9.6Kbps to 115Kbps
When programmed with the EMV-Ready
application, the Teridian 73S1112F/
Host Controller
User Smart-Card
Tx
Rx
ISO-7816-3
73S1120F devices operate as a slave to the
host controller. The host controller (master)
exchanges some simple commands via the
serial interface in order to activate/ deacti-
vate the card, to enable an automated PTS
negotiation with the card and of course
to exchange APDU commands with the
card, regardless of the protocol and speed.
Smart card management can be handled
with very few commands (SCardConnect,
SCardStatus, ScardTransmit, ScardControl
etc). The ScardControl command is also
used by the host to control the 73S1112F
/73S1120F device directly. For example,
Power management (Normal/Idle/OFF
modes), User I/Os, host interrupt enable,
serial interface speed etc, can be controlled
using simple ScardControl commands.
Also, the Teridian EMV-Ready application
includes an EMV “loop-back” routine (also
accessible through a ScardControl com-
mand) that is required by EMV/MasterCard
-accredited laboratories when performing
EMV/MasterCard type approvals. This can
help to reduce type approval test time. In
order for the host controller to control the
73S1112F/73S1120F device, the host must
implement the Teridian proprietary protocol,
which is based on a Command Interpreter
layer, operating a challenge/response
scheme. The format of these commands
is a subset of the PC/SC specification. In
addition, the commands are encapsulated
within a Teridian proprietary HDLC protocol
that handles error detection and correction.
Teridian application engineers can assist
with integration of the protocol into the host
system, so that the whole implementation of
the card reader function can be completed
within a few days.
