73M1822 Product Brief
73M1822 MicroDAA
™
The Teridian 73M1822 is a single chip package of the 73M1922 chip set that uses
Teridian’s unique data access arrangement (DAA) function designed for voice band data
and fax modems.
The 73M1822 MicroDAA™ is the first single chip silicon direct access arrangement for
data/fax modem and voice applications. It provides a serial MAFE interface to popular DSP/
host processors to implement a globally compliant cost effective soft modem solution.
The 73M1822 offers software programmable AC/DC terminations, types I and II caller ID,
billing tone filter, ring detection, polarity reversal detection, line voltage and current moni-
toring, call progress monitoring and pulse dialing.
Internally the device constitutes two separate functional units that provide the necessary
functionality and the protection required for worldwide homologation.
With better than 2.0 in
2
(10.2 cm
2
) board area and a very competitive BOM cost, a
complete universal DAA may be realized with only a few standard external components.
Suitable applications for the 73M1822 include set top boxes, low to high speed (PCM)
voice band data modems, point of sales terminals, fax and multi-function peripherals,
text telephony, embedded telemetry (industrial and medical) etc.
Based on an innovative and patented technology which sets new standards in reliability
and cost. A small pulse transformer forms a digital isolation barrier, transferring both
power and data to the PSTN line side components. This results in reliable performance
in presence of EMI as a tolerance to line voltage variations by providing power to the line
side across the barrier thus enhancing overall performance.
Key Applications
High speed voice band data modems
Satellite Set Top Boxes
Fax/Multifunction Peripherals (MFP)
Point of Sale Terminals
Voicemail systems
Embedded modem applications such
as medical and industrial telemetry.
Overall the 73M1822 provides a highly efficient solution for high performance.
Teridian Semiconductor Corporation is a modem technology pioneer and Silicon DAA
patent holder with a long history of development and innovation including the capacitive
isolation barrier technology licensed to 3rd parties and has been globally deployed in low
speed and high speed analog modems.
