Description
This part consists of a switching power supply with a 1.4A switching transistor, and a 5V
linear regulator. The part is designed for use in an airbag application. The energy reserve
voltage used to fire the squib driver in an airbag system is externally programmable. The
5V linear regulator supplies power to the airbag module’s logic circuitry. The IC’s
“Smartswitch” allows the linear regulator to normally run off of the battery voltage (V
IGN
).
This allows less power to be dissipated than a connection of the linear regulator to the
switcher output. In the event of a crash resulting in the loss of V
IGN
, the “Smartswitch”
switches the linear regulator to run off of the switching regulator. An on-chip voltage
tripler allows the use of external high side FET control.
